Kinetic methods for Line–energy Ginzburg–Landau models
A class of variational problems arising in thin micromagnetic film or in the gradient theory of phase transitions exhibit an hyperbolic behavior, a surprising property being given their natural elliptic structure. These two–dimensional Ginzburg–Landau problems are, for instance, characterized by energy density concentrations on a one–dimensional set comparable to a steady shock wave. Here we re...
متن کاملOn some properties of the Landau kinetic equation
We discuss some general properties of the Landau kinetic equation. In particular, the difference between the ”true” Landau equation, which formally follows from classical mechanics, and the ”generalized” Landau equation, which is just an interesting mathematical object, is stressed. We show how to approximate solutions to the Landau equation by the Wild sums. It is the so-called quasi-Maxwellia...
متن کاملKinetic Models for Biologically Active Suspensions
Biologically active suspensions, such as suspensions of swimming microorganisms, exhibit fascinating dynamics including large-scale collective motions and pattern formation, complex chaotic flows with good mixing properties, enhanced passsive tracer diffusion, among others. There has been much recent interest in modeling and understanding these effects, which often result from long-ranged fluid...
متن کاملEnskog-Landau kinetic equation for multicomponent mixture. Analytical calculation of transport coefficients
Abstract. The Enskog-Landau kinetic equation is considered to describe non-equilibrium processes of a mixture of charged hard spheres. This equation has been obtained in our previous papers by means of the non-equilibrium statistical operator method. The normal solution of this kinetic equation found in the first approximation using the standard Chapman-Enskog method is given. On the basis of t...
متن کاملEnskog-Landau kinetic equation. Calculation of the transport coefficients for charged hard spheres
Using charged hard spheres model as an example, the dense one-component plasma is considered. For this model the Enskog-Landau kinetic equation is obtained and its normal solution is found using Chapman-Enskog method. Transport coefficients are obtained numerically and analytically and compared with the experimental data available. PACS: 05.60.+w, 05.70.Ln, 05.20.Dd, 52.25.Dg, 52.25.Fi.
